FAQ

Epoxy Flooring Questions, Answered

Straight answers to the questions Arlington homeowners and businesses ask most about coated concrete floors.

Choosing a Floor

What is epoxy flooring?

A resin coating bonded to prepared concrete that seals the surface and creates a durable, easy-clean finish.

What is the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic?

Epoxy builds thickness and bonds strongly but cures slowly and yellows in sun. Polyaspartic cures in hours and resists UV. Many floors use both.

What is a flake floor?

A coating with colored vinyl flakes broadcast into the base coat, then sealed with a clear topcoat. It adds texture and hides dust.

Is metallic epoxy practical?

Indoors with moderate traffic, yes. It shows scratches more than flake floors, so it suits living spaces and showrooms better than working garages.

Can epoxy be used outdoors?

Standard epoxy yellows in sunlight. Covered patios can use polyaspartic or another UV-stable system.

Preparation and Installation

Why is grinding necessary?

Grinding removes the weak surface layer, old sealers and stains, and opens the concrete so the coating can bond. It is the main difference between a lasting floor and a peeling one.

What happens to cracks?

Cracks are opened and filled before coating. Moving cracks may still show a line later, and the estimate will say so.

Do you test for moisture?

Where it makes sense, especially indoors and on older slabs. High readings call for a moisture-mitigating primer.

How long does installation take?

Most garages take one to two days. Interior and commercial projects vary with size and system.

Is there dust or odor?

Grinding is done with vacuum extraction. Some odor occurs during application, and ventilation is planned.

Cure Times and Care

When can I walk on the floor?

Polyaspartic often allows foot traffic within hours. Epoxy typically needs about a day.

When can I park on it?

Polyaspartic systems often allow vehicles within about a day. Epoxy systems usually need several days.

How do I clean an epoxy floor?

Sweep or blow off grit, then rinse or mop with a neutral cleaner. Avoid harsh solvents and abrasive pads.

Will hot tires lift the coating?

Not on a properly prepared and built system. Hot-tire pickup is mainly a problem with thin kits on unground concrete.

Can the finish be refreshed later?

Yes. A worn topcoat can be lightly abraded and recoated without redoing the whole floor.

Estimates and Service

Are estimates free?

Yes. Estimates are free and come with no obligation.

What affects the price?

Square footage, slab condition, repairs, moisture, the system chosen and extras such as stem walls or cove bases.

Do you publish prices?

No. Every floor is different, so each estimate is written for the specific space.

Which areas do you serve?

Arlington, including North, East and Southwest Arlington, plus Grand Prairie, Euless and Mansfield.
